Sumanto is a Lecturer in Nutrition Science at Bournemouth University’s Faculty of Health & Social Sciences. His research focuses on dietary interventions and their effects on metabolic health and the gut microbiome, most recently evidenced in a 2025 Nature Communications study showing improved metabolic markers in individuals with prediabetes following a legume-rich diet.
Sumanto’s work spans diverse areas, including the impact of whole grains, algal proteins, plant-based meat analogues, and time-restricted feeding on cardiometabolic outcomes. He has led randomized controlled trials examining postprandial satiety, glycemic responses, and body composition across varied populations in Asia.
